Upcoming Events at the Newport News Public Library System
Join us for the following events, classes, and programs at your local Newport News library. All events are free and some events require registration (where listed).
Children ages 5 through 11 can explore the mysteries surrounding Native American culture with Cherokee myth-keeper Red Hawk as their guide. Journey through time as you listen to stories of animals, places and even the world’s beginning as explained through the Cherokee religion and culture. This program provides crucial insight into the ways of a people important to the history of North America.
Share songs, rhymes, and simple stories in a brief storytime for parents (or caregivers) and children ages birth to 2 1/2. This storytime is offered the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.
Dogs in the library?! The PAWS to READ program helps children ages 6 to 10 build their confidence by reading out loud to trained therapy dogs at Grissom Library on the first Saturday of each month. Parents need to sign a permission form and may accompany their children. No registration is required.
PAWS to READ is held the first Saturday of every month.
Children ages 7-11 can join Pearl Bailey Library’s New Book Club for Kids to read and discuss their favorite books and do fun activities. The Book Club meets every month.
Storytime for parents and children ages 2 1/2 to 3 1/2, which includes stories, sings, fingerplays, flannelboard stories, and a simple craft. Registration is required.
