With a declining economy shrinking wallets and high calorie food expanding waistlines, there has been an increased need for inexpensive meals that are healthy, yet still taste delicious.

Some people get discouraged by their lack of cooking skills, while others feel that they don’t have time to cook or that cooking at home is too expensive. So they wait in line at a drive-through window of a local restaurant and order assembly line food that they will have to pay a tax on and may not be freshly cooked or taste all that great. Then there are couples who don’t want to eat the same leftovers for a week, so they open a can of something that doesn’t exactly excite their appetite.

Recognizing the need for guidance, Chef Warren Caterson, who wrote the award-winning cookbooks Table for Two – The Cookbook for Couples and Table for Two - Back for Seconds (Winfield & Scott Press), talks to audiences across the country about how cooking at home can be done fast, in a fun and frugal way.

Chef Warren will be at the Bradford County Public Library at 4:00 pm on Monday, January 26 to give an entertaining presentation that will inspire your inner chef. Chef Warren’s passion for cooking is contagious, his energy level is set on high, and his recipes will tickle your taste buds. His recipes make just the right amount of servings for two people, but the measurements can be multiplied to feed a larger crowd.

Join Chef Warren as he shares dozens of kitchen tips, cooking hints and humorous anecdotes about the joys and challenges of cooking for two. Chef Warren will answer such questions as: Is it possible to chop onions without tears? Are pre-packaged frozen entrées really time and money savers? What is the best upgrade for my kitchen? How do I preserve all that leftover fresh parsley when I've only used a teaspoon or two? And, should I cook with wine, and if so, what kind should I use?

Chef Warren ends each presentation with a cooking demonstration, preparing a healthy entrée that anyone can replicate in their own home in less than 15 minutes.

The presentation, which is sponsored by Friends of the Bradford County Public Library, is open to the public and free to attend.  The Bradford County Public Library is located at 456 West Pratt Street in Starke. Preregistration for the event is recommended to allow for satisfactory seating.  For more details, call Kathy Paddock at 904-368-3921.

Get a glimpse of the past, when ladies dressed in corseted dresses and men wore hats with their suits, and enjoy an afternoon tea, courtesy of the Friends of the Bradford County Public Library. Rita Parisi of Waterfall Productions will perform a one-woman show during a Victorian Courtship Tea at the Bradford County Public Library on Monday, February 9. Doors open at 3:00 pm, the show begins at 3:30 pm.
As the character of Mrs. Gordon, a middle class lady from 1908, Rita will talk about this new trend called “dating” and recount how her husband courted her during the 1890’s, the period when courtship was the only acceptable way young ladies and gentleman could get acquainted with each other.
Rita Parisi has been entertaining audiences for over 18 years. In 2002, she founded Waterfall Productions to create shows that highlight her passion for theatre, literature and costuming; performing them in New England, New Jersey, New York and Southern Florida.  Rita Parisi is also actively involved in film and some of her films have been debuted at the Boston International Film Festival and Cannes film Festival. She is a proud member of the largest acting union in the country: SAG/AFTRA (formerly the Screen Actors Guild and American Federations of Television and Radio Artists)

Following Parisi’s 50-minute performance, tea and sandwiches will be served.  For more information about the Victorian Courtship Tea please call the Bradford County Public Library at 904-368-3921
