Meador Library Free VITA Tax Assistance

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.
 
Assistance is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Sign up in-person at the library.  No advance reservations are accepted and no tax advice or assistance is available over the phone.
 
Many of the common tax forms are available and free at the library and others are downloadable from the IRS Web site at https://www.irs.gov/
 
Assistance is available on Mondays from 9am-12pm and Thursdays from 2pm-7pm, Feb 1 through April 6, except President’s Day, Feb 20.
 
What to bring:
Proof of identification (photo ID)
Social Security cards for you, your spouse and dependents
Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents
Wage and earning statements (W-2s, 1099s)
Interest and dividend statements
Copy of last year’s tax returns
Health insurance statements or exemption
Proof of bank account routing and account numbers for direct deposit such as a blank check
Both spouses must be present to sign joint return
Total paid to daycare provider and provider’s tax ID number
Affordable Health Care statements (1095-A, B, or C)
Copies of income transcripts from IRS and state, if applicable
