Library Initiative for Teens is a fun, interactive, and inclusive community that is low commitment. We have several roles that are assigned to our volunteers based on their interests and talents. There is a monthly get together were we hang out and brainstorm on upcoming library and community needs. Teens are encouraged to come and try out a month or two and see if it is something they would like to do, there are also some who only join in the summer/school year.

Must be 12 - 18 years old and able to come in at least once a month (hopefully, but we know things come up). That can be our monthly meeting or if you can't make that, we are happy to find something that works for you. This meeting is usually the third Thursday of the month at 4:30pm for about an hour.

Email Ms. Heather for more info or if you have any questions! hreilly@pomfretlibrary.org.

Start the summer paw-sitively!  Xen's Critters will be coming to the library with her animal friends for a hands-on presentation. There will be lots of surprise cute and cuddly animals, there might be a chinchilla, a ferret, maybe a sugar glider. However, there will be a few creepy crawly animals coming too! Maybe a snake, a frog, or even an alligator!
This one hour educational presentaion will have lots of interaction between the animals and guests, also time for pictures too!
This children's event will be the first of many fun and exciting summer programs here. Registration is preferred please sign up as a family and if the list is full, please join the waiting list as we will be trying to make as much room as possible for the event.
Nacho Average Snacks
Pomfret Public Library
Tuesday, Jun. 20, 10:30am
Starting summer story times off in the yummiest way possible! This story time will be centered around snacks and we will also be learning how to make some kid friendly snacks.  These will be something that most kids will be able to do themselves. This first storytime will be most enjoyed by ages 3-6, but do not let that discourage younger/older kids! We'd love to have all our friends join us.
Registration preferred, for head count for supplies, please definitely register if your child has any dietary restrictions/allergies. We will be peanut free regardless, but there are many more allergies out there.
Nacho Average Snacks
Pomfret Public Library
Tuesday, Jun. 20, 4pm
Every kid should know how to make at least one or two small snacks (or meals!) for themselves! We'll go over a few different no cook recipies and make an idea board. Of course, we'll also make nachos together to have as our snack while we talk about snacks! This session is designed for older kids, roughly ages 7-12, as we will have recipies that may include microwaves or butterknives.  There is a younger session happening in the morning as part of storytime, see that listing for younger children.

June 20th at 4pm. Registration Required (we gotta know how many nachos to bring!)

L.I.T. Library Initiative for Teens. Volunteering at the library is great for college & employment applications!  Meetings are more on the chill side, we work & play. There will usually be a task to be completed but we do it while having fun. Meetings are officially one hour long but we sometimes stay til 6 when the library closes. They are on a drop-in basis, but I do send out reminder emails for upcoming meetings to all members. Our teen helpers are roughly 13+ (grades 7-12).
Our summer meetings will be on:
June 22nd
July 27th
August17th
If you cannot make the meetings, but still want to help out, we always have volunteer oppurtunities. Especially in the summer, teen asisstants are much appreciated at the children events, with prepping, with brainstorming, with cleaning, etc... email Heather at hreily@pomfretlibrary.org for more details or questions

Story time during summer reading is extra magical! There is a broader age range, more energy, more stories, more music, more bubbles...you get the idea.  All children are welcome but the age range that will enjoy it the most is 0-7 years old.  Registration optional but does secure your spot and craft. We try to hold all summer storytimes outside as long as weather permits. In case of a rainy day we will head inside to the children's room. Held on Tuesday mornings at 10:30am, with the exception of July 4th (closed) & July 18th will be at 6pm (see event on calendar).

What have you read lately that you would recommend to other readers? What left you thinking “I have to find someone to talk about this book with!” Join us at this special session of the Pomfret Public Library Book Discussion Group – instead of discussing a book, we’ll talk about recent reads and pick some titles for next year’s reading and discussion list.

Taking Great Photos
Pomfret Public Library
Saturday, Jul. 8, 2pm (Saturdays, July 8 &15, 2-5 pm)
or call 860-928-3475.

Smartphone camera quality is improving constantly and rapidly. For many shooting situations, it’s the perfect alternative for a sometimes heavy and unwieldy 35mm camera. And since most people carry a smartphone in their pocket or purse, they’re almost guaranteed not to miss those great photo opportunities.

This class is for those interested in producing high-quality images with their smartphone cameras. That means moving away from the Auto Mode, where control of the camera by the shooter is almost nonexistent, to the Manual or Shutter Priority Modes. Doing so lets the photographer be in full control of the camera. And that control will mean significantly improved pictures.

This class will run for two consecutive weeks and the second class will build on concepts introduced in the first. Please only register if you plan to attend both sessions.

Don’t forget to bring your fully charged smartphone as well as any accessories you have, including the charger for your smartphone.

Guess who's back! Buildwave will be returning to the Pomfret Library this summer! This program was so fun and had such a great attendance that we decided to go for a second round. This is a Parent/Caregiver & Child activity, teamwork is a big part of this event and the adults WILL be participating. Participants are led through waves of high energy building activities using materials like Lego®, PlusPlus®, Kapla®, and more. The entire experience is hands-on from start to finish. Buildwave features a captivating audiovisual component that sets it apart from every other enrichment program, making it feel more like a video game rather than just another enrichment activity.
Registration Required, please sign up each person individually as spaces are limited. As always, put your name on the waitlist if it fills up, you never know when a spot will open up! Best for ages 5-12 with accompanying adult
