Chess Tournament

The Craft Memorial Library Chess Club will host a tournament on Saturday, April 27 at 12:00 pm.  Play starts at noon, with check-ins beginning at 11:30 am.  The tournament is open to all ages and skill levels. The Friends and Staff of Craft Memorial Library would like to extend an invitation to our
50th Anniversary reception on Thursday, May 2nd, at 5:30 pm. Enjoy soothing music of
Alan Ashworth while sampling the delicious refreshments. Please RSVP by April 29th.

The Bluefield Public Library first opened on May 5th, 1913, with 600
volumes. On May 1st, 1974, the library opened at its current location
with 20,000 volumes and the name was changed to Craft Memorial
Library in honor of Jack Craft. Today, Craft Memorial Library houses
over 100,000 items. 

Alan Ashworth was introduced to music at a young age by his father
who was a violinist. Alan started taking violin in 5th grade but fell in
love with guitar after seeing the Beatles perform on the Ed Sullivan
Show in 7th grade. He is a current member of the Central Pickers and
pastors two churches in Bastian, VA. Sponsored by The Friends of the Library.
