Learn about beginning beekeeping of honey bees with entomologist Richard Lewis from WSU Extension. He will cover equipment, types of bees,  and  the effort and time commitment of bee keeping. He will also discuss native bees, the different kinds, how to attract them and the benefits that come from them.

About the Presenter: Richard Lewis is from Vermont and has BS in entomology from University of Delaware and a MS in entomology from WSU. After school, he worked at USDA-ARS in Yakima studying tree fruit and potato pests. Next, he worked at the University of California Davis working on numerous crops ranging from rice to cotton along the central valley. Most recently, Richard was at the University of Maryland working on corn and soy bean pests and honey bees. He moved to Port Townsend about 5 years ago, for his two sons to have a nice place to grow up. Richard now works with WSU extension doing pest management, insect ID and maintaining hives on Marrowstone Island.
