Science/STEM Book Discussion Series
Canton Public Library
Saturday, Nov. 17, 11:00 AM
“Science/STEM Book Discussion Series,” considers the book, Decoding the Heavens: The 2000-Year-Old Computer and the Century-long Search to Discover its Secrets, by Jo Marchant. A strange device is found in a Mediterranean Greco-Roman shipwreck around 1900. Though some thought it might be from outer space, over the decades investigators float theories on its function and purpose. Not until 2006 did the research and technology come together to explain the meaning of the device known as the Antikythera Mechanism. Learn how scientists believe this ancient astronomical computer worked. Registration requested. All adults are welcome; free. Book copies available at Circulation Desk. Light refreshments served. Call or email for more information:  (860) 693-5800, bvanness@libraryconnection.info.
