Freeport Community Library
Wednesday, Feb. 21, 6:30-7:30pm
NASA Solar Ambassador Jon Wallace will give a talk on the amazing life of Cassini-Huygens spacecraft. The spacecraft, an international endeavor, was launched on October 15, 1997, and traveled 2 billion miles on a 13 year mission around Saturn. It was the largest, most sophisticated satellite ever sent to the outer planets. This talk will look at the entire mission, but highlight the “Grand Finale” (the last 22 orbits) where the spacecraft flew over the cloud tops of Saturn and through its rings before plunging into the planet and burning up to prevent any contamination of Saturn’s moons. This will be a 45 minute presentation, followed by a Q&A. All ages welcome!
