Wednesday, Nov. 29, 6:30-7:30pm
Because of the early November power outage, Bruce Coffin has kindly rescheduled! Please join us Wednesday, November 29 at 6:30pm with the author of Among the Shadows and, more recently, Beneath the Depths.
Coffin is a former detective sergeant with more than twenty-seven years of law enforcement under his belt. By the time he retired from the Portland police department, he was supervising all homicide and violent crime investigations for Maine's largest city.
Discouraged by an unfulfilling and frustrating college creative writing class, Coffin didn’t start writing until much later in his life. But this long incubation period gave way to tight investigative thrillers that capitalized on his law enforcement background. His debut novel, Among the Shadows, was published in 2016, and Beneath the Depths a year later in August 2017. Both books are published through Witness Impulse, an imprint of HarperCollins. In addition to his John Byron Mysteries, Coffin's short fiction has appeared in several anthologies, including 2016 Best American Mystery Stories, Busted!: Arresting Stories from the Beat, and Red Dawn: Best New England Crime Stories.
Paul Doiron writes for the Portland Press Herald: “Portland is a distinctive little city with an old shipping and fishing heritage, waves of immigrants from Asia and Africa who have made a real impact on the culture, and a recent hipster trend. Bruce really gets how unusual Portland is, and you sense it beneath the story.”
