Beat the Reaper ~ Josh Bazell

****ckubala
Beat the Reaper

Beat the Reaper is an unique read. Read it for the quirky characters. Read it for its dark humor. Read it because it's one heck of a thriller. Read it for the history, or for the medicine. Read it before it's turned into a bad movie. Read it for the gimmicks; I'm not telling .Read it because it's a debut effort and a new voice in fiction. Read it because it's a real hot book and everybody's reading it. Read it before Bazell publishes number two (fingers crossed)!

I just read that Leonardo DiCaprio is interested in making the movie version of this book!

Boy that was quick! Considering my comment about being made into a bad movie, let's hope that Hollywood and DiCaprio does the book proud. I'm not sure. Do you think he's got the stuff to play Bearclaw? I think I was thinking someone broader, taller, more thug type. If I think of a better someone I'll let you know.

How about Joaquin Phoenix? He can play a tough guy. I liked him in the role of Johnny Cash...he was also in Gladiator.

PS You know how much fun I have choosing actors for the roles of characters in my favorite books! The best time I ever had with that was with Lorna Landvik's Patty Jane's House of Curl. If only they had really made that into a movie!

Yes, yes,, Joaquin Phoenix, would be perfect. Just the right look and age, enough brawn. I have trouble picking people for parts but know when I think the pick is wrong. Remember how we panned Clint Eastwood in Bridges! And speaking of books into movies, Jodi Picoult's My Sister's Keeper comes to the screen soon. I'll be chatting about that more in the near future.
