SEPTEMBER 13, 2010
Nobody Reads Anymore Anyway!
Nobody reads anymore anyway...I'm certain you've read that declaration
somewhere. A bit of an oxymoron in itself, isn't it? when you consider you had to read to have read this nonsense.

Frankly I'm amazed at how much people are reading.

Just look at these figures from my GoodReads account:

103,480 people rated The Hunger Games by by Suzanne Collins
71,277 rated Catching Fire  by Suzanne Collins
45,827 rated Mockingjay  by Suzanne Collins
11,694 have rated The Passage by Justin Cronin
10,581 for The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe
14,635 The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley
16,151 Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick

and these are just a few of the numbers generated from my list of
books that I've read and rated.

Nobody's reading anymore...and certainly not at Saxton B. where last year we loaned 73,343 items, 6,925 items than the previous year.

As a life long reader even I was amazed at the figures above. I'm happy to say reading is alive and well. Long live reading! And Happy Reading to all of you!

So seeing you're reading, we'd love to have you share what you're reading at the moment by making a comment on the blog.

You can see a snapshot of what's on my list by visiting the adult library webpage at www.columbiactlibrary.org/adult.htm and scrolling down to my GoodReads Widget. It's updated regularly.

Staca is currently reading:The post card killers, by Patterson. Nicola is currently reading: The queen of everything, by Deb Caletti. What are you reading Carol? Or should we say, how MANY books are you reading? ;)

Glad to see you are taking after your mother/grandmother and continuing the tradition of reading. Tell us a bit more about those books, especially Nicola. The Queen of Everything...what does that mean? I'm reading Hypothermia by Arnaldur Indridason, a good bet for Steig Larsson fans and Faithful Place by Tana French (one of my new fav authors). Also just finished Year of wonders for the second time. It's by Geraldine Brooks and is about a 17th centruy plague carried from London to a small village, Eyam. Based on a true story this is historical fiction at its best. Dipping into God Never Blinks: 50 Lessons for Life's Little Detours by Regina Brett to remind myself how lucky I am. And to round this all out I just finished watching a Nature DVD called Nature: Hummingbirds: Magic in the Air which is stunning!
