What'd ya get??

A few weeks ago I posted a blog about books to give as gifts for all different readers. Now that Christmas has passed, I thought it would be fun to share what books I actually saw given and received as gifts among my family and friends. Here's a short list of some of the titles that I can remember!

The Gate House, Nelson DeMille's follow up to The Gold Coast.

Giada's New Italian Favorites - YUMMY!

The Memory Keeper's Daughter, by Kim Edwards

The ONION 's Our Dumb World; Atlas of the Planet Earth, a must have for Onion fans!

Peace: The Words and Inspiration of Mahatma Gandhi

Bob Dylan's Little Black Songbook

The Bulldog, by Diane Morgan

The Two of Us...and Friends (a cookbook), by by Jessie Carry Saunders

These are just a few of the books I saw given over the past couple of days. All in all books seemed to be a popular item this year - and I know lots of people who will be snuggling up to do some reading over New Years! So I want to know- did you end up giving or getting any great new books over the holiday season?? Post a comment and tell me about them!

Getting - Would you believe none, 0, nada! What a shame! I never get any books for Christmas, birthdays or other special occasions. My family and friends think that because I work in a library, I have access to all the books I could possibly need. What they miss is the oportunity to find that special book, one that they think I'd like, one that reflects what they believe are my interests, one that says I know you and you'd enjoy reading this, or one that says, I loved this, maybe you will too. Giving - a new cookie recipe cookbook for the cookie maker in our family, a thriller for my mom who loves to bite her nails while reading a good book, a diabetic cookbook for my daughter whose new love has diabetes, Fablehaven for my grandson, The Daughter-In-Law Rules for my soon to be niece-in-law, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for a friend, gift certificates to bookstores for some so they can choose their own books and access to my bookshelves to any and all who enter my home.

Speaking of giving and getting books, Penguin Group has a neat website featuring what books their authors are giving and those they'd like to receive this year. Because comments to blogs cannot include links you can find the list by doing a google search for penguin group what to give An interesting mix of titles!

I received a subscription to Everyday Foods (not a book but bound to help us have yummy food), two Jane Austen mysteries by Stephanie Barron, and three Discworld books to add to my growing collection (although it will take awhile since there are 32 in the series and I am only at 7). But my husband takes the cake - he received 10 new books (all theological or biblical commentaries, talk about taking up space on the shelf!) and we ordered a 10 commentary set on the New Testament for him with some Christmas money. Now he needs to build a new bookcase!
