New Book Friday!

It’s Friday again and that means another order for some great new books.   Here are a few from the recent order. See something you like? Be sure and place a hold!

Going Bovine by Libba Bray
Cameron Smith, a disaffected sixteen year-old who, after being diagnosed with Creutzfeld Jakob's (aka mad cow) disease, sets off on a road trip with a death-obsessed video gaming dwarf he meets in the hospital in an attempt to find a cure.

Immortal by Gillian Shields
Falling in love with the mysterious Sebastian, Evie Johnson, a scholarship student at the Wyldcliffe Abby School, is haunted by a sisterlike figure that seems to be sending her a warning. Book 1 of the new Mystic Sisters series.

Leviathan by Scott Westerfield
New Science Fiction by the author of the Uglies series!
In an alternate 1914 Europe, fifteen year old Austrian Prince Alek, on the run from the Clanker Powers who are attempting to take over the globe using mechanical machinery, forms an uneasy alliance with Deryn who, disguised as a boy to join the British Air Service, is learning to fly genetically-engineered beasts.

Outlaw: The Legend of Robin Hood
Graphic Novel
How did Robin of Loxley become Robin Hood? Why did he choose to fight injustice instead of robbing for his own gain? Expressive and gritty, this graphic novel whisks readers back to Crusades-era England, where the Sheriff of Nottingham rules with an iron fist, and in the haunted heart of Sherwood Forest, a defiant rogue — with the help of his men and the lovely Maid Marian — disguises himself to become an outlaw.

My Pick of the Week (or the book I am most anxious to see!)
Riot by Walter Dean Myers
In 1863, fifteen-year-old Claire, the daughter of an Irish mother and a black father, faces ugly truths and great danger when Irish immigrants, enraged by the Civil War and a federal draft, lash out against blacks and wealthy "swells" of New York City. This book is the newest from the author who wrote Fallen Angels and Sunrise over Fallujah. He is known for his tough topics, often involving racism and war. This one is written as a screenplay and was just released this week.

New Books!

Today is Friday or new book ordering day at WPL.  Thanks to everyone who suggested YA books for the library to purchase this week. I am always happy to have your suggestions, send them to me at lwegner@scls.lib.wi.us or post them here!

Now, for a list of some of the new books ordered today.

Crazy Beautiful by Lauren Baratz-Logsted   (For romance fans!) This is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast with a hero who lost his arms in an accident and now has hooks instead of hands.  He believes he is a beast and likes that the hooks scare people away.  But, Aurora isn’t scared, in fact the hooks don’t bother her at all.

New Moon: The Complete Illustrated Movie Companion
Twilight fans, place your hold for the new movie companion soon. The release date is October 6!

Tempted by P.C. Cast
The newest title in the House of Night Series – it will be released October 26.

Clash of the Demons by Joseph Delany
Book 6 of the Last Apprentice Series.  Horror fans, if you haven’t tried this series yet, pick up the first book,  Revenge of the Witch.

Finally – My Pick (The book I can’t wait to read myself)

Fire by Kristin Cashore
This is a romantic and suspensful fantasy set in the same world as one of my favorite books from last year, Graceling.(But with different characters so it’s okay if you didn’t read the first one!)  It is about Fire who is an exceptionally beautiful human monster with the ability to enter other people’s minds.  I am counting the days until it is released October 5!

See one that looks good? Reserve a copy (also known as “placing a hold”) using our online catalog. It is easy, you just need your library card and PIN number.  We’ll let you know when the book is ready to be picked up and of course there is no charge.   You can access the LINKcat catalog from our website www.waunakeepubliclibrary.org      Don’t know your PIN number?  Try the month and day of your birth, ( July 4 would be 0704).
