The Road by Cormac McCarthy.
This brilliantly written novel tells the grim tale of a father and son who journey toward the sea in a postapocalyptic America. In spite of the horror they experience which is depicted by McCarthy in chilling detail, there is still a very real element of humanity, family connection, and hope in their story. This book recently won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for 2007, and is certainly worthy of the distinction. Since this was also a selection for Oprah's Book Club, the library is fortunate to have several copies. Stretch your mind-read this book!
