SEPTEMBER 16, 2009
Grim news...

The Philadelphia Free Library's website is threatening to close it's doors as of October 2, 2009 in the absence of a State budget. For those of us who use libraries or believe in their value to the community, this is a rather scary scenario. If a big city like Philly can't maintain a public library, what may happen to the rest of us? It is more crucial than ever for our patrons and supporters to let their feelings be known to the governor, state legislators, and local borough officials. Can we really afford to lose all of the resources of the public library-thousands of dollars of technology, printed materials, and other informational and communication services could be gone from our communities, never to return. If you haven't contributed to our annual fund drive yet, please consider doing so soon. If you can't do that, please dash off an email to Harrisburg-you can easily find contact information at www.legis.state.pa.us. And don't forget to mention the library when you see borough council members. In spite of their favorable vote at last month's meeting, we have still received no funding!
