I am a mad fan of the Tour de France. I don't know which is more of a draw-the excitement and, these days, the unpredictability of the race or the gorgeous scenery that accompanies it. Having been pre-occupied with this event over the past few weeks, I went searching the stacks for some books on cycling. Unfortunately, our library is a little short on the category. We do have two fairly current books on mountain biking, but nothing on long-distance road racing. This is a sport where technology has really made a difference. Two recent publications that might be of interest are
The Complete Book of Long-Distance Cycling by Edmund R. Burke and Ed Pavelka, and
We Might As Well Win, the story of Johan Bruyneel's success as a team director in the Tour de France. Bruyneel tells his story with the help of his most famous rider, Lance Armstrong. Both books should eventually be available through interlibrary loan.
