Reviews by Teens for Teens

Here are some of the reviews from our Teen Summer Reading 2009 program.

Feel free to tell us if we misquote you.  I'm trying to decipher everyones' handwriting.

The Mysterious Benedict Society by  Trenton Lee Stewart

I really liked this book because it was very funny and suspenseful.  It took me

a while to read and at first I wasn't hooked (the beginning is slow), but it was worth it.

by Abby Reed.

Identical by Ellen Hopkins

This book was good because it kept you turning the pages and the end was

very shocking.

by Gina Cutarelli

Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card

I liked this book's viewpoint on a past event in another book he wrote.  He wrote it from a different, unimportant character from before.

by Alex Daley

Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult

When an Amish girl is blamefor not only becoming pregnant when she isn't married, but for killing her newborn, the Amish community accepts a lawyer who becomes immersed in their culture and traditions.  A rare insight into Amish life, this book leaves you hanging on every word and ends with a surprising conclusion.

by Amelia Byko

I read the Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold this week and I thought it was a great summer read because it was serious but also very entertaining.  I liked the element of suspense and the complex characters.  I would recommend this book to any high school student.

by Rebecca Szpekman

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

Stargirl was happy to be who she was.  She looked for the good in others. She didn't care what others thought of her.  This book taught me to be happy with who you are.

Second Winner of Teen Summer Reading 2009

This week's winner is Abby Reed.  She read Eragon by Christopher Paolini.  Abby wrote: " I really liked Eragon because it was full of adventure and unexpected surprises."

There are plenty of prizes left this summer.  So far we have awarded a $20 Michael's Crafts gift card and certificates for a large pizza from LaSalle Market and $6.00 worth of goodies from the Village Sweet Shoppe in Collinsville.  Remember, all you have to do is READ, REVIEW and ENTER.  See you at the library.

We Have Our First Winner! Don't Miss Out!

Our first weekly prize winner of Teen Summer Reading 2009 is Holly Chase.

She won the drawing by reading and writing a review of A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray.  Holly wrote:

"A Great Book!  It really combined mystery and magic in a non-corny way."

You can do that, can't you?  It's easy to enter, just read one of our tempting books and write a quick review on an official review card.  The cards are available at the Canton Public Library Circulation Deak right next to the fishbowl where you can deposit your entry.  We had plenty of entries last week, but this week is still a bit skimpy so it is a great opportunity. Stop in today.
