Library Ebooks for Your Kindle Now Available

As promised earlier this year, our patrons who own a Kindle can now download free ebooks from the Wright Library Digital Collection to their device.  (Read the annoucement here.)  The newly Kindle-compatible ebooks can be read not only on Kindles, but using any Kindle app whether for PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, Android, etc. or the Kindle Cloud Reader.  Nearly all ebooks in the Ohio Ebook Project (the location of Wright Library's Digital Collection) are now Kindle compatible, but this development is still in its beta phase, so there may be the occasional hiccup.

To download Kindle-compatible ebooks, search the Wright Library catalog or the Ohio Ebook Project to find an available title.  Check out the title in the usual manner by adding it to your cart, then confirming the check out.  Once the title is checked out it will display with a "Get for Kindle" link.  Clicking the link will take you to Amazon.com where you will need to sign with your Amazon account information.  If you do not have an Amazon account, it is a simple process to create an account.

Once you are signed in, simply click "Get library book".  You will be asked to which device or app you are downloading the ebook.  Select the appropriate one (you may have to install an app if this it is not already installed) and Amazon will sync with it.  When you use your Kindle or Kindle app the title will display.  Please note that downloading occurs only over a Wi-Fi wireless connection and not over a 3G connection.

Please look for further news and information concerning library ebooks for Kindle, including demonstration programs that will take you through the process.

As I Lay Dying
Considered one of William Faulkner’s finest novels, As I Lay Dying will be the topic of the discussion at November’s On-the-Road at Starbucks Book Club.  Join us on Tuesday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the Starbucks in Oakwood when we will revisit the mayhem of Addie Bundren’s final journey to Jefferson, Mississippi.

Addie Bundren’s dying request is to be buried in her native Jefferson, a great many  miles from the family home. Upon her death, her husband, Anse, and her five children set out with a mule cart bearing her casket.  But such travel isn’t easy. Reviewer Mindie Kniss writes it is“a hero’s journey gone awry – the Bunden family quest is one in which Murphy’s Law prevails.”

To learn more about the book, you may take a look at the following resources:

Faulkner won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1949 “for his powerful and artistically unique contribution to the modern American novel.”  You might enjoy reading Faulkner’s acceptance speech or listening to his banquet speech.   For more information about William Faulkner, visit the following sites:
