Tax Forms
Update (3/1/11):  The 1040A instructions have arrived, so Wright Library now has all tax forms and instructions available.

Update (2/17/11):  All tax forms and instructions are now available at Wright Library except for 1040A Instruction booklets.

Update (1/21/11):  Wright Library now has Ohio state tax forms and instructions, as well as most of the major federal forms (1040, 1040EZ), but no instruction booklets.  Oakwood city tax forms are to be delivered at the end of the month.

Although, the IRS is not mailing out income tax forms this year to individuals or businesses, Wright Library will be receiving forms for distribution.  They have not arrived yet, but we will update the status of our inventory here.  We expect to receive forms by the end of January.

In the meantime, you can print out most forms from the IRS, Ohio Department of Taxation, and Oakwood Web sites.  Or you can file online.  Both the IRS and the Ohio Department of Taxation provide ways to do this on their Web sites.

Additional resources for tax information and assistance are listed in our Income Tax post.

Economic Stimulus Package
The recently announced Economic Stimulus Package has stimulated questions as well as excitement.  IRS has put together an Economic Stimulus Payments Information Center to help answer those questions.

To receive a payment, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income, and file a 2007 federal tax return.  More Basic Information.

For individuals who normally do not file taxes, the IRS has created a Package 1040A-3, Information About Economic Stimulus Payments for Social Security, Veterans, and Other Beneficiaries.  This packet includes
an informational notice, tips for completing Form 1040A, a sample Form 1040A, and an actual Form 1040A for the filer to complete.

For Seniors looking for assistance with filing taxes, contact one of these local resources.  Online, AARP offers a Stimulus Payment Tool.

To help you determine whether you qualify for a stimulus payment use the
Economic Stimulus Payment Calculator.

OCTOBER 1, 2007
Homestead Exemption
Today, October 1, 2007, is the deadline for applying for the Homestead Exemption property tax relief credit.  If you have missed it, don't worry, you can still receive the credit by applying in 2008.

The Homestead Exemption
provides property tax relief to qualified senior citizens and permanently and totally disabled Ohioans. It takes the form of a credit on your property tax bills.  A new law has expanded eligibility.

According to the Ohio Department of Taxation Web site, taxpayers who miss the 2007 filing deadline may still claim the credit for property taxes to be paid in 2008, but must wait until 2008 to apply.

Those who miss the deadline will need to file a late application for the missed tax year at the same time they file a timely application in 2008. The first day to file the application in 2008 is January 8, 2008; the last day is June 2, 2008.

Applications are available online from the Ohio Department of Taxation and the Montgomery County Auditor's Office.  Look for new forms in 2008.

Send applications to:
Karl L. Keith, Montgomery County Auditor
451 W. Third St.
Dayton OH 45422-1021
Attn: Homestead Dept.
