OverDrive App Update
OverDrive will release an updated version of the OverDrive Media Console (OMC) mobile app for iOS and Android (v2.6.5) on Tuesday, May 29. Below is a summary of the release details.
OMC for iOS v2.6.5
- Enhancements to improve the speed of the in-app browser
- Bug fixes
- Reauthorization of Adobe ID for ALL iOS users required by Apple
Due to a change in Apple's privacy policies, we’ve had to make changes to the way we handle licensing of EPUB eBooks and MP3 audiobooks. As a result, the OMC for iOS v2.6.5 update will de-authorize every users’ Adobe ID and prompt them to authorize again. Audiobook users will be unaffected unless attempting to download parts from a book that was only partially downloaded prior to the v2.6.5 update.
eBooks – Adobe Authorization
After installing the update, users with authorized Adobe IDs in place will see the following message:

Clicking ‘Sign In’ will show the ‘Adobe Authorization’ screen. The deauthorized Adobe ID is pre-populated, so the user will only need to enter the password. The ‘Forgot password?’ link will be available.

Audiobooks – Downloading additional parts
Audiobook users won’t notice anything different unless they attempt to download parts of audiobooks partially downloaded to OMC before installing the v2.6.5 update. In this case, the following message is displayed:

Users will need to download the title again from their Ohio eBook Project bookshelf to download the missing parts.
These updates will be messaged in the App Store and on the “What’s New” screen. Additionally, there are two help articles available for users and library staff to help with these updates:
OMC for Android v2.6.5
Note: The issues with Adobe authorization and audiobook downloads will not impact the Android release of OMC v2.6.5.

Mountains beyond Mountains
Get ready to climb some pretty high hills when the On-the-Road at Starbucks Book Club visits Haiti with author Tracy Kidder. Join us Tuesday, June 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the Starbucks in Oakwood to discuss Kidder’s Mountains beyond Mountains.
A chance encounter on a plane leads the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Kidder to follow Paul Farmer to Haiti. Farmer is a doctor, famed infectious disease specialist, Harvard professor and anthropologist. He is on a relentless quest to bring modern medicine and hope to the abject poor, who live, as Abraham Verghese writes “in the kinds of places we do not like to think about.” As characterized in the Haitian proverb, “Beyond mountains there are mountains,” Farmer never falters as he turns to the next problem after solving the last.

The Accidental Tourist
Some journeys are not easy. This month the On-the-Road at Starbucks Book Club will discuss Anne Tyler’s novel, The Accidental Tourist, a story about a man recovering after a great personal tragedy. Join us Tuesday, May 7th at 7:00 p.m. at the Starbuck’s in Oakwood to discuss this moving work, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction in 1985.
Macon Leary is a travel writer who hates both travel and anything out of the ordinary. When his son is killed in a sudden shooting, neither he nor his wife can deal with their grief. Hence, their marriage crumbles and Macon’s wife moves out. In a short time, Macon, while working around his house, breaks both legs and is forced to move in with his extremely eccentric siblings. One cockeyed thing leads to another and Macon finds he needs a dog trainer. He hires Muriel Pritchett to train his unruly dog. Muriel’s own delightful peculiarities compel Macon to reengage with life. When his wife notices Macon changing for the better, she wants to reconcile. Nothing is ordinary about the decision Macon has to make.

More eBooks from Wright Library
Wright Library's new ebook download service gets rid of waiting lines from the digital library experience. Every title in the Freading collection is always immediately available to download and read. The collection includes over 20,000 titles and is the perfect complement to the ebooks available through the Ohio eBook Project.
Wright Library patrons are given 10 virtual tokens every week to use to download ebooks from Freading. Different books "cost" different amounts of tokens, either 4, 2, or 1. Use your tokens any way you wish. Unused tokens role over to the next week, but every fourth week any excess tokens are removed and you begin again with just 10 tokens for that week.
Books can be checked out for two weeks with the option to renew for an additional two weeks. Freading ebooks use Adobe DRM which requires an Adobe ID which can be obtained by providing an email address and password at Adobe.com. Ebooks can then be downloaded to your computer and transferred to a reading device using Adobe Digital Editions (availabe for free). You can also install the Freading app on many mobile devices to download ebook directly.
