Dreamers of the Day by Mary Doria Russell
The book for April's On-the-Road at Starbucks Book Club is also the Dayton-community Big Read selection, Dreamers of the Day by Mary Doria Russell. Join us Tuesday, April 6th, at 7:00 p.m. to discuss this historical novel and the protagonist's journey, as well as the impact the events described continue to have.

Spinster and Ohio school teacher Agnes Shanklin travels to Egypt on an inheritence.  Her hotel is the site of the 1921 Cairo Peace Conference, which puts her in the company of several significant, historical figures, including T. E. Lawrence and Winston Churchill.  Through her conversations with these individuals and her descriptions of her travels, the reader is given a painless history lesson.  It is the lessons Agnes learns on her personal journey of self-discovery that make the story compelling.

For more information on the book and Mary Doria Russell visit her Web site, where you'll find her biography, an excerpt, and an interview on the writing of Dreamers of the Day.  There is also a reader's guide from the publisher .
