Culvers Coloring Contest

In celebration of National Library Week, April 12- 18, the Lester Public Library will join the Wisconsin Library Association Foundation and the Culver’s restaurant in Manitowoc in the “Worlds Connect” drawing campaign for children 11 and under. This is the thirteenth straight year local Culver’s restaurants in Wisconsin have sponsored this event, which encourages children to read and celebrates their favorite book characters. Children can enter the drawing event by picking up drawing sheets from the library’s youth desk beginning April 1. Children are encouraged to draw characters from a book that they would like to meet at the library. Every child who completes a drawing will receive a “Be Our Guest” coupon for a free single scoop of frozen custard from Culver’s and be entered into a random drawing to win a Culver’s kickball or Culver’s Play-On activity book. Do you excel at Wii Bowling, Wii Tennis, Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero or Super Smash Brothers Brawl?
Come test your skill against other teens ages 12 and up for a chance to become a Lester Public Library Wii Champion. One champion will be selected for each of the above games.
Champions will then compete with other teens from Manitowoc, Kiel, Chilton, New Holstein and Brillion at a tournament this fall. Winners from that tournament will then compete with teen across the state!
To participate you must be at least 12 years old, have a valid library card and compete at LPL during one of the following game times:

  • Friday, June 20: Guitar Hero

Participants with the highest score for each game will be declared champion. Rules for each game will be discussed during game time. Scores will be kept track of on a master sheet. Participants may compete at any tournament they wish but may only represent LPL for one game. Participants do not have to be present for both tournaments in their game of choice.   The Wii is available for practice on Fridays during the summer when no tournament is scheduled (1:00-5: 15PM.)

Reader Recommendations

This is a totally cool idea!

As part of LPL's 2007 Adult Summer reading Program, you, our very own library patrons, leave impressions, thoughts, reviews of books that you have read IN THE BOOK!

The next patron to come along then has a guideline whether or not to pick it up and take it to the beach.

We provide a form that has the following rating system:

Four Badges = Detective 1st Class (highest rating)
Three Badges = Liked It
Two Badges = Just OK
One Badge = Arrest the Author

There is space for you to jot down a 2 or 3 line review of the book, bring the slip back to the reference desk to enter your name for a prize!

Staff will ensure the slip gets placed in the book.
