Ruth West began in 1934 to turn a barren strip of land consisting of 6½ acres on the shores of Lake Michigan into what is now the West of the Lake Gardens.
The gardens now are owned and operated by the Ruth St. John and John Dunham West Foundation Inc. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week through mid-October. Lester Public Library Board of Trustees enjoyed a tour of the gardens. Mary McLean, Library Gardener, led the tour and shared future plans with the Board.
Library patrons are invited to walk through our beautiful grounds, take a break with your favorite author in the cool shade!
