You may remember the first annual Paddle Open by another name, 300 Rivers. Last year on April 14, 2007 Wisconsin canoeist Rick Kark marked his 300th Wisconsin river canoed on the East Twin River. Kark led a contingency of fellow paddlers that rowed from the Mishicot Dam to Paddlers Park in Two Rivers on the East Twin River. One year and 12 days later canoeists and kayakers left Mishicot Dam for the Paddlers Park destination under the new moniker – ‘East Twin River Paddle Open.’
As was the case last year, there was a mishap with Two Rivers City Manager, Greg Buckley’s canoe. Victims claimed by Buckley’s deft canoeing skills include last year’s dunk - Mark Matthews, Two Rivers City Council President and this year’s victim - Frank Lasee, Representative for District 2, Wisconsin State Legislature. Said Buckley, “Working my way from local government, to state representative, next year I need a federal representative in the canoe!”
