Reuben and Joan LaFountain receive a special travel gift for their accomplishments this summer. They visited 55 libraries in New Hampshire this summer as part of the "Reading Road Trip USA" summer reading program.
Local resident Evan Hill has generously donated his collection of books to the Richards Free Library. During his diverse career he has been a reporter, editor, free lance writer and head of the Journalism Department at the
University of Connecticut.
The Evan Hill collection will be housed with the historic collection in the library’s Andler Room. This collection includes books about American, New England, New Hampshire and Newport history, Also included in the collection is a wide ranging selection of books about the art and craft of writing.
The Teen Writer's Group met with local author John Lunn. The group is led by local author Cindy Davis and meets every Wednesday at 2:30.
Faith Lamontague won the Summer Reading Car at the finale party for the Reading Road Trip Summer Reading Program.
This October we will be joining libraries, schools and bookstores all over the state to read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Both our reading groups will meet to discuss this modern classic and; Richard Hesse, Of Franklin Pierce Law Center will speak on the freedom of speech on Tuesday, October 16th. The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. The Big Read: New Hampshire Reads Fahrenheit 451 is a project of the Center for the Book at the New Hampshire State Library in partnership with the New Hampshire Humanities Council.
