Baseball movies

The boys (and girls) of summer are at the ball parks. How about a baseball movie on a hot summer night? Here are some of the best.

Field of Dreams

This story of the Iowa corn farmer who hears voices “If you build it, he will come”, field

interprets them as a command to build a baseball diamond in his fields, and does, is an all-time favorite. This fantasy-drama film is a wonderful adaptation of the novel Shoeless Joe by W. P. Kinsella.

A League of their Own

With the 40^th anniversary of Title IX upon us, take a look at this fictionalized account of the story of two sisters who join the first female professional baseball league and struggle to help it succeed amidst their own growing rivalry.

The Natural

Settle in for the story of a middle-aged batter named Roy natural

Hobbs who appears out of nowhere to take a losing 1930s baseball team to the top of the league in this magical sports fantasy. This is a wonderful adaptation of the novel of the same name by Bernard Malamud.

Bull Durham

This title is a tight blend of comedy, drama and romance and follows the intertwining of three lives brought together by the great American pastime. Some list this as the number one baseball movie of all time.

Moneyball

We can’t suggest baseball movies without including the latest hardball selection – Moneyball – adapted from the book Moneyball: the Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis.

I would just like to although the movie "A League of Their Own" was a fictional story, it has its roots in history. The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was a women's professional baseball league founded by Philip K. Wrigley which existed from 1943 to 1954. During the league's history, over 600 women played ball. And I agree, the movie was awesome. I met a couple of real Rockford Peaches once at a Rockies game, and they were very inspiring.
