It is a truth universally acknowledged that the way to win Best Picture is to adapt a book into a movie. In fact, 40 of the past 82 winners have been adaptations. Those are pretty good odds. In honor of the 82nd Academy Awards, here is some info on upcoming movies that are based on books. These particular movies probably won't win any awards, but we're looking forward to seeing them anyway!

The Au Pairs by Melissa de la Cruz
I know, those of you in the know are thinking: Old news, Drew Barrymore's Flower Films and Alloy Entertainment have been signed on to this project since October 2006. However, RJ Cutler (who directed The September Issue has now signed on to direct. Shooting is supposed to start this summer in the Hamptons.
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
Thanks to the success of Dear John, word is that Screen Gems has fast-tracked the Uglies movie for release sometime in 2011. What does Dear John have to do with anything? Screen Gems is known for horror and sci-fi flicks, but now that the gamble on the rom-dram has paid off...
Incarceron by Catherine Fisher
Catherine Fisher's dystopian novel of a futuristic prison with a mind of its own was released in the UK in 2007. It was just released in US last month, and a sequel, Sapphique, is due next January. Hugh Jackman's company is attached to produce the film version for Fox 2000.
Avalon High by Meg Cabot
The Disney Channel Original Movie is scheduled to premiere in late fall 2010. Fans are getting excited. Check out these fan trailers for the movie:
