Arrrrrrrrgh! Braaaaains!
ZombiesIt seems like zombies are the next big thing. I guess we’re getting tired of vampires and werewolves. There have been some fantastic zombie books lately that you may enjoy.

If zombies were real…

Zombie Haiku by Ryan Mecum
Blood is really warm.
It’s like drinking hot chocolate
but with more screaming.
A man keeping a haiku journal is turned into a zombie and continues his horrible haikus with a new theme. Laugh-out-loud funny and vaguely gross.

World War Z by Max Brooks
This is a collection of interviews done after the end of the zombie apocalypse, examining how the war began to how it was ended. Here’s a hint – the humans won, but just barely. I highly recommend the audiobook which has various narrators reading the different interviews and gives it a feel that is just a touch too real. Brooks also wrote a fabulous guide to living with zombies - The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
Although they never say “zombie” in this book, the “unconsecrated” beyond the gates are definitely just that. This is what life could be like if we had not won World War Z, with the few remaining humans living in a small fenced community. Until they break down the fence. Part zombies, but also part adventure and romance and road trip, this is a delightful story about survival and secrets revealed.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Zombies!: A Book of Zombie Christmas Carols by Michael P. Spradlin
A delightful little book with all your favorite Christmas songs rewritten with a zombie theme. Perfect for singing around the crackling fire with your zombified friends.

Zombies in our stories…

Pride and Prejudice and ZombiesPride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith
If you love Austen and zombies, this is the perfect book for you! The classic story has been retold to include zombies. Elizabeth Bennet is a zombie hunter in competition with her Mr. Darcy, a rival monster hunter.

Generation Dead by Daniel Waters
Phoebe is a typical Goth high school student. She ends up dating a “living impaired” boy (read: zombie) and finds the world is full of prejudice and hate for their relationship.

Zombie Blondes by Brian James
Zombie cheerleaders. ‘Nuff said.

I Kissed a Zombie and I Liked It by Adam Selzer
Alley has a firm rule of not dating the undead no matter what…but somehow she still ends up caught between her zombie boyfriend and her vampire crush.

Love is Hell by Melissa Marr
Five short stories about love, the undead and the supernatural. You’ll have to read it to see where the zombies come in.

What did I miss? What zombie books do you recommend?
