Science Saturday Pi or Pie

Pi, it’s not just a tasty dessert; it is also the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter.

Pi is also an irrational number.  This is a number that will go on forever.  To this date it has passed all known tests as being a random number.  The record for memorizing Pi was achieved by Chao Lu in China who recited Pi from memory to 67,890 places.  This took him 24 hours and 4 minutes to recite.

Pi occurs in hundreds of equations in many sciences including those describing the DNA double helix, a rainbow, ripples on water, superstrings, general relativity and much more.

The Feynman Point is at position 763 and has six nines in a row.  This is named for Richard Feynman who is known for his work on the Manhattan Project (atomic bomb).
