Bidding Adieu to our Executive Director
Bittersweet news to report on the JCPL front. Executive Director Marcellus Turner has submitted a letter of resignation to the Library Board of Trustees, effective July 15. Marcellus is moving on to become city librarian of Seattle Public Library.
MT, as he's known around the Library, joined JCPL in 2002 as director of library programs and services and was named to the executive director position in 2008. In his new position, Turner will oversee Seattle's main library and 26 branch libraries.
"This was a very tough decision for me," MT said. "Jefferson County is a wonderful community, and JCPL is one of the most innovative libraries I have ever worked with. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work with such a supportive board and dedicated and professional employees, and I can't begin to express the joy that this job and library have given me."
The Trustees will launch a nationwide search for a new executive director as quickly as possible.

Lakewood Library Closed for Construction May 30-Sept. 5
We've got
major upgrades planned for the Lakewood Library this summer. Unfortunately, this means we'll have to temporarily close while construction is taking place.
Planned upgrades to the library include:
- replacement of an outdated heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system;
- installation of an automated book sorter;
- updates to make the library more energy efficient; and
- a reconfiguration of administrative offices to enhance efficiencies and workflows.
Storytimes, the Young Readers' Fun Club, and Summer Reading Club sign up and completion will be held at the Whitlock Recreation Center. See our schedule for more details. Please note that you can sign up for Summer Reading Club at any of our locations.
The closure includes the library's book drop. Patrons are encouraged to use any of our other nearby libraries for your needs, including Arvada, Belmar, Edgewater, Golden and Wheat Ridge.
We know this is an inconvenience for our patrons, but the renovation will allow us to improve customer service, enhance operations, capture energy efficiencies and reduce operating costs.
Thanks for your patience!
