Our System-Wide Energy Upgrades are Complete
Over the past year, JCPL has been working to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings we own. This $3.5 million project was part of an Energy Savings Performance Contract completed in partnership with the Governor’s Energy Office and McKinstry, a firm specializing in consulting, construction, energy and facility services.

The project, completed on time and under budget, is expected to generate an annual savings of $220,000, with a payback period of approximately 16 years. In fact, the remaining funds will be used to replace the HVAC system at the Golden Library later this year, at no additional cost to the library. Energy improvements have been completed at the Arvada, Belmar, Columbine, Evergreen, Golden, Lakewood, and Standley Lake libraries, as well as the Library’s Service Center.

Energy improvements included:

  • Lighting upgrades;
  • Water conservation measures;
  • HVAC and controls upgrades;
  • PC power management;
  • Evaporative cooling; and
  • Resource conservation management.

These improvements are estimated to reduce carbon emissions related to Library buildings by more than 2,800 tons a year.
