This Just In: Read Overdrive Ebooks on your iPhone or iPad

Overdrive has just released the new version of Overdrive Media Console for iPhone, which means that JCPL  patrons with iPhones and iPads can now check out EPUB Ebooks from Overdrive using this app.

For more information about downloading the app, visit http://www.overdrive.com/software/omc/

Those with first generation iPhones won't be able to use the Overdrive app. It only works on phones with the more recent operating system, and Apple has stopped updating the first generation phone. I have a first generation phone and I use Bluefire Reader, another free app, to read Overdrive ebooks. It works with your Adobe Digital Editions email and password. Just thought I'd pass along the tip in case there are any first generation users out there who are frustrated by not being able to read library ebooks on their iPhone!

Kathy, thanks for sharing that info. There is a pretty detailed description of the process involving the Bluefire reader here: http://blog.libraryjournal.com/ljinsider/2010/11/12/library-ebooks-on-the-ipadiphone-no-sync-required/ There are a couple of steps, but it does appear to be a good option if you are unable to use the Overdrive app.
