"The Guardians Of Rhea" by Jose Rodriguez

Rating: Not Great (2)

The day Sara has always dreamed of has come. She is a fully fledged guardian- the elite humans who protect their race from the deadly Rheans. Although the ceremony is disappointing, she is satisfied when she is sent on an amazing quest. Soon everything she "knows" is turned upside down. Are the Rheans truly dangerous, or is their a by far more threatening species? The plot of this book wonderful, but can be gunked up with all the different people, places, and species. In some places I literally had to go back and search through the book to figure out who someone was, and what species they were.

"Budding Magic" by L. S. Fayne

Rating: Excellent! (5)

Ireland 1838
The O'Byrne family is not normal, they have gifts. When Aine forsees the potatoes failing in a few years, causing millions of deaths, she sets to work to prepare the village and her family for the hardship with the help of her husband. Before they are finished, Keegan is killed and Aine must finish it on her own. Aine, however, is also preparing herself. She knows that she won't survive this pregnancy. On the day Haley arrives Aine uses the Birth magic and her Death magic to activate the protection spells. Suddenly orphaned the six older O'Byrne daughters must figure out what their parents have done, and how to survive. This book may be rather long, but it is definitely worth it to take the time and read it.

We Dont Make This Stuff Up by Bozeman Daily Chronicle

Now I'm guessing most of you have never been to Montana. And if you have, most or none of those select group of people haven't been to Bozeman, Montana (Don't worry it is a really great town about the size of Wausau. Of course stupid and hilarious people are everywhere and certainly in Bozeman. For example: In 1989 a person who looked like Dracula was seen on the playground in Irving Elementary School. Three officers were sent to the scene with wooden stakes, crosses, and garlic according to a report. You'll never believe who it was! So if you wind up in Montana go into the local book store and I'm sure they'll have it. It's a great read and a great laugh.

"F In Exams" by Richard Benson

Rating: Excellent! (5)

F In Exams by Richard Benson

We all know that their are a couple types of students. Some study for tests and do great. Others don't study and still do great! Others don't study at all and get what they put out. Then other students study and still flunk. This book talks about the last group of students, from all over the world, covering all subjects with crazy answers. For example: What happens to your chest when you breathe? The answer is hilariously crazy! So look online or maybe go to your local book store. Great read. Highly recommend it!

Free Stories About Human Rights By Amnesty International

Rating: Excellent! (5)

Free? is a collection of short stories by different authors that are edited together by Amnesty International. They all focus on different human rights that everyone around the world should be entitled to. From stories about Child labor, to being persecuted for having a certain religion, to an extended metaphor about a guinea pig, everyone will find at least one story in this book that they love. After each story is a short blurb explaining a different article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948. This adds a lot to the book and makes it clear that the rights that we take for granted, other people in the world do not have the privilege of such freedoms.

"Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children" by Ransom Riggs

Rating: Just Okay (3)

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is the saying 'never judge a book by its cover'.

A mysterious Welsh Island, a crazy grandfather, an abandoned run down orphanage, and creepy photographs and an even creepier cover.

You expect this book to be horror, ghost story.

No.

It is a story of time travel, powers, and monsters. After about 3 or 4 chapters, the book loses any creepy factor it had.

It is a good book for what the actual plot is and is easy to read. Although, if you want a horror/ghost story, this book is not for you.

"The Brides Of Rollrock Island" by Margo Lanagan

Rating: Just Okay (3)

The Brides Of Rollrock Island by Margo Lanagan

The Brides of Rollrock Island tells a tale of an island that has no women. Or rather, they have beautiful women who are born of seals and magic.

There are multiple POVs in the book, including the witch who creates the seal women, sons, and husbands. But never any seal women.

This is not a book of happiness. At it's happiness, it is bittersweet. It is a book about revenge, sorrow, and despair. It is a dark fairy tale.

The book will leave angry and sad about the cruelty of human nature.

It takes a few chapters to really get into the book.

"Anastasia's Secret" by Susanne Dunlap

Rating: Good (4)

Anastasia's Secret by Susanne Dunlap

Anastasia's Secret by Susanne Dunlap tells the story of Anastasia Romanov, a daughter of Russia's last Tzar before it was torn apart by a revolution. It follows the Romanov family through good times, and until they are forced into house arrest when the Bolsheviks seize control. Dunlap realistically shows the life of the Romanov family and Imperial Russia during the revolution. She does add Sasha to the story though, a young guard sympathetic to the Romanov family and a friend of Anastasia's since they were young. The two have a kind of romance, and he shows her how Russia is outside of her palaces and expensive lifestyle. In all, I would recommend Anastasia's Secret to anyone who enjoys historical fiction, just know that the author did take some literary freedom in the story.

"The Princess Bride" by William Goldman

Rating: Excellent! (5)

The Princess Bride by William Goldman

Sword fighting, royalty, death, true love, a Zoo of Death... all of these are combined to form a masterpiece. Princess Buttercup, crushed by the death of her true love, reluctantly gets engaged to Prince Humperink. Little does she know that she is only a pawn in a war game. While the story is captivating, it is also slightly complicated- after all, she is kidnapped (by a giant, a philosopher, and a Spaniard), kidnapped from the kidnappers by a pirate, forced to wed Humperdink, rescued from the Prince by her former kidnappers, and eventually finds true love again. Looking for a good read? This book is it!
