Rating: Excellent! (5)

Grimm's Fairy Tales by Jacob & Wilhelm Grimm

If you think you know fairy tales, think again! The original fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm will shock you with how different they are from what you've seen in the movies. You occasional catch a happily ever after, but more often than not you just get a hard to swallow lesson about how to be a better person. This book is wonderful; containing some old favorites but also some lesser known stories that are just as wonderful. So, if you're looking for an easy and interesting read, this book is for you!

Champion

Rating: Excellent! (5)

Champion by Marie Lu

The war is over. That's all Day and June can focus on after they sacrificed so much for their country. The Republic is on the brink of new beginnings. Things should be okay.
But they're not.
A new string of plague breaks out and causes panic in the Colonies, the neighboring nation to the Republic. As war threatens the Republic once again, Day and June are reunited and battle the impossible. This stunning conclusion to the trilogy "Legend" not only gets the attention of readers, but deserves it. I'm a little disappointed that the rating can only go to five on this website; this book is somewhere rated in the hundreds. Brilliant and breathtaking, book lovers will simply keep this book by their side three months after they're done reading it so it's close to them. AMAZING!

Hunger Pains

Rating: Excellent! (5)

The Hunger Pains: A Parody by The Harvard Lampoon

Kantkiss Neverclean is thrown into the unexpected when she takes her sister's place in the Hunger Games. How in the world will she be able to look adorable for the cameras when she's killing twenty-three other tributes? Not to mention that her heart is on the battlefield as well-- she must chose between her hunky hunter friend Carol Handsomestein or the doughy dough boy Pita Malarkey. Decisions, decisions. Will Kantkiss be able to fight her way through all these hardships and emerge a victor?

I cried all the way through this book. If you've read the Hunger Games or not, you need to pick up this hilarious piece of literature. Great for anyone, especially someone who needs a quick read with a lot of laughs!

Girl in the Arena

Rating: Not Great (2)

Girl In The Arena by Lise Haines

This is a story about a girl in a dystopian, gladiator-like world, written by an author trying to follow the success of The Hunger Games (and failing).
Basically, in this future gladiator fighting is an accepted and popular sport. The main character's mother is the wife of a gladiator (and has remarried many times in the past). Lyn, the protagonist, gives her dowry bracelet to her current father, who is later killed by another gladiator. The new gladiator captures the bracelet, which means Lyn has to marry him or become a gladiator herself.
That is about where I stopped reading. The book itself isn't particularly exciting, but the author's style isn't easy to look at.
The main reason is that hyphens are used in place of quotation marks. Other authors do that as well, but this can be headache-inducing and it doesn't give anything to the story.
If you are looking for an exciting, Hunger Games-like story, look elsewhere.
