Conspiracy 365: January

Rating: Excellent! (5)

Conspiracy 365: January is a great book. It starts on December 31 when a crazy old man warns Cal Ormond that "they"? killed Cal's father. The man then goes on to tell Cal about the Ormond Singularity and how he must survive until midnight of December 31 the next year. Cal doesn't think much of this warning until his house is broken into. Nothing was taken, except whatever was in a jewelry box found in his dad's stuff. About a week later Cal goes to a park to meet with one of his dad's nurses. On his way there he is kidnapped. After he escapes, Cal meets with his friend, Boges. Later, he goes home to find his uncle unconscious on the floor, with blood around him. He goes to his sister's room and discovers that she is not breathing. After performing CPR, he hears his kidnappers on the stairs and sirens outside. Cal runs away. This begins his life on the run. Will Cal even survive January? Read Conspiracy 365: January to find out.

The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows

Rating: Excellent! (5)

Just as there is a saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover," there should also be one saying, "Don't judge a book by its title." Although having a weird title (which you will find the meaning of as you read the story), the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society is one of the best books of all time. It follows Juliet Ashton, a young writer in London in 1946, as she wants to write a story about the war that isn't just the happy side. She finds her story on the English island of Guernsey that is recovering after being occupied by Germany during World War II. Some people of the island begin writing back and forth to Juliet and suddenly a story and friendship is being formed . . . there is a love triangle included as well! The other unique thing about this book besides its title and its fascinating take on World War II is the fact that it is written in all letters and at first I thought I wouldn't like that but I came to truly enjoy that format. This book is an amazing story that covers a side to World War II that might not have been known to everyone before. I recommend this book to all historical fiction lovers and give it 5 stars!

The Curse Of The Wendigo by Richard Yancey

Rating: Excellent! (5)

The novel The Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancey is an adventure/ gore novel about a famous monstrumologist (someone who studies monsters) named Dr. Pellinmore Warthrop and his assistant Will Henry, a young boy of the age of twelve who the story revolves around. When Dr. Warthrop's friend and colleague, John Chanler, goes missing in the Canadian wilderness in search of proof of the legendary wendigo, it's up to Dr. Warthrop to see what happened to him. The wendigo is a creature so absurd that its legend has been considered to be nothing more than a children's horror story. It's a creature native to the Canadian wilderness that devours parts of its victims in gruesome ways and bestows the curse upon them making the victims become one with the creature. When Dr. Warthrop and Will Henry do find John they bring him home to New York City for his long recovery. During his recovery, monstrumologists from around the world gather together for a monstrumologist convention in New York. During this time, however, John disappears"¦ and the killings begin. I truly loved the novel. It might have given me the goose bumps; however that didn't stop me from enjoying it. I highly recommend this novel to anyone looking for a dramatic climax.
