Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Rating: Excellent! (5)
The multi-billionaire co-creator of the most popular video game ever created has just died, and he has hidden his fortune inside the game. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline follows Wade, username Parzival, a boy in search of the "Easter Egg"? that hides the fortune and the three keys needed to unlock it. After finding the first key, Wade's life is upheaved and changed forever. He must now race against his best friend, his cyber-crush, and the army of an evil corporation to reach the prize.
For game-lovers, this book is nerdtastic. It references enough late twentieth-century pop culture to shame Trivial Pursuit. For non-gamers, this is still incredibly entertaining. I couldn't put it down, even though the pacing is very uneven. Whole chapters are devoted to describing Wade's daily life and giving background information on the video game and the contest; the book then jumps into life and sprints at full speed when one of the players grabs a key. Wade's romantic relationship with another player feels almost forced. Despite this, it is a great read for anyone in middle school on up.

Halo 3 by Bungie
Rating: Excellent! (5)
This game is amazing. If you haven't played the first or second, do so now! This series would be an amazing reason to buy an Xbox 360. If i could go above 5 in the rating scale i would. You still play as Master Chief and his UDST squad are still are killing hordes of the covenant onslaught. This (and Kindom Hearts, another great game) are what made me into the gamer i am!!! i seriously recommend this game if your parents will let you.

TimeSplitters 2
This weeks GAME of the WEEK is TimeSplitters 2. It starts off in the year 2401 in the midst of a war between humanity and the TimeSplitters, an alien race bent on the destruction of mankind. However, rather than invade, they are using the special objects called time crystals to travel through time changing the course of history, bringing Earth to ruin.
Two space marines from Earth, Sergeant Cortez and Corporal Hart, are sent out to a space station overrun by TimeSplitters to retrieve the time crystals. However, when they reach the bridge, they are too late as they see the last few TimeSplitters take the time crystals into the past using the time portal. Then, some other TimeSplitters try to break through the door to get into the room. Corporal Hart decides to try to hold them off while Cortez goes into different time periods of the past to retrieve the time crystals.
Upon arrival at each time period, Cortez take the form of a person from that particular period of time, similar to Quantum Leap. For example, when Cortez arrives in the Wild West, he takes the form of a bounty hunter. When he arrives in a 24th century robot factory, he takes the form of a robot.
After Cortez retrieves all of the time crystals, he returns to the space station to meet with Hart. The TimeSplitters outside finally break into the room. Corporal Hart is killed in the ensuing battle. Cortez sets the space station to self-destruct and he escapes on his ship before it blows up.
This game can be played as single or multi-player.

Turok (Rated 5.0)
The game is about a guy named turok who is on a mission to kill one of his old trainers because he is going to kill every one with a gas that has neurotoxins in it and as his ship is going to the planet it gets blown up and you and one other person were split from the rest of the group during the crash. so as you are trying to relocate your group you find out that the planet is filled with dinosoars, giant bugs and your former trainers armies. you get a knife a bow and guns when you find them that is. You finally meet up with your group only to split up to find a transmitter so u can get off of the planet. then you have to get in their base to find a ship to get out since the transmitter is busted. you find one ship , but its ruined so you look for a different one. when you find a way out though your old trainer is about to fly away. and you choose to try and kill him. but are you good enough is the question. the best thing about the game is that it is long fun and a first person shooter. one bad thing is that it doesnt have a lot of achievements on story mode for the 360. it is for the ps3, and xbox 360.
(David recommends this game for players 10 and up.)

Grand Theft Auto IV (Rated 5.0)
Grand Theft Auto IV is a really fun game where u are a russian who just came to america to try and be somebody and start a new life. he lives with his cousin roman for a while helping him with his taxi company. he ends up being a hitman for anyone who pays or he feels like helping. its a sandbox game meaning that you dont have to follow the story line u can roam around town and do whatever u want usually stealing cars and killing people for fun getting chased by cops and doing stunts with cars.the bad thing is that young kids should not play this game because of the blood violence language and sexual scenes. the goal of the game is to do all of the missions , make friends with your clients by taking them to play pool or darts whatever really. the good thing about the game is u can do whatever u want with vitualy no conciquences the cops come after u but u can either use a cheat or just get caught/die and then come alive again and just lose your weapons and some money. also it is fun because everything is so realistic.
David recommends this game for players 17 and older.

Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 (Rated 4.5)
This is a Nintendo DS game that is a lot of fun. You go to different countries and play games in those countries. You try to get the high score in each of the games. You can also change the way your rabbid looks by changing his clothes, color, and the background. There are a lot of different games to play. Some are pretty easy to do good at, but some are really hard and take a lot of practice. It's a game that is good for either boys or girls too. The rabbid makes a lot of sreaming noises. I think it's cool but it can be annoying to the people around you. That's really the only bad thing I can think about the game. It's rated E so it's really a good game for people of all ages too.
(Paige reviewed a video game called Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 for Nintendo DS. She thought the game was appropriate for ages 10-16 years old.)
Paige was also our weekly winner, so she got to chose the next videogame to be added to the collection, she chose Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 for Nintendo DS. Congrats Paige! -- MCPL Staff
