"An Abundance of Katherines" by John Green

Rating: Good (4)

An Abundance Of Katherines by John Green

"An Abundance of Katherines" is another John Green novel that, while similar to his other works, still manages to be a lot of fun. This book features a child prodigy with a bit of an identity crisis who also happens to have dated and been dumped by many girls, all named Katherine. He decides his key to success in life is to create a mathematical formula that predicts how long a relationship will last. While he works on that, he is takes a road trip with his best friend, where they have all kinds of adventures and meet new people, which naturally includes love interests. Quirky, funny, and insightful, "An Abundance of Katherines" is one of John Green's superior novels.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Before the story starts, Hannah Baker committed suicide. After the news of her death has spread, a fellow student from the same high school, Clay Jensen, receives a box of tapes. Curious, he listens to the tapes, and learns that the tapes were created by Hannah--just before she committed suicide. On the tapes, Hannah names and describes thirteen people. Thirteen people who contributed to her decision to kill herself. And Clay, for some unknown reason, is among them.
Afterwards, Clay spends a night walking around town, visiting sites Hannah mentions, learning about his classmates, and of course learning about Hannah herself.

"Love Letters To The Dead " by Ava Dellaira

Rating: Excellent! (5)

Love Letters To The Dead by Ava Dellaira

Love Letters To The Dead was an excellent book. The writing style was unique, as displayed in letters. The book started off with an English assignment given to the main character, Laurel. She had to write a letter to a dead person. While the assignment seemed rather boring, Laurel was touched by it because a death had occurred in her family. She decided to write the letter to a musician whom the dead family member loved. From there, the assignment spiraled out of control. Instead of turning the work in, Laurel began to use it as her journal. Through this journal, we see the journey she takes to overcome the depression that has kicked in after the unexpected death. Or was it even unexpected? While Laurel experiences first love, weird and quirky friends, and love for music, we all begin to wonder how this loved one died. Was it was truly unexpected? Or was there a way to stop it?

"The Story Of Us" by Deb Caletti

Rating: Good (4)

The Story Of Us by Deb Caletti

Cricket is on the verge of change, which scares her. She just graduated from high school, her mother is (hopefully) getting remarried, she is meeting her soon-to-be stepsisters, and her dog is getting old. All this, plus she may have made a huge mistake with her boyfriend. Throughout the book, we learn more about Cricket and Janssen's relationship, and her mom's previous relationships. In the week leading up to the wedding, can anything go right?
This was a good book, but it wasn't anything spectacular. Some things seemed way too fake, but the message behind the book was a good one.

"The Fortunes Of Indigo Skye" by Deb Caletti

Rating: Good (4)

The Fortunes Of Indigo Skye by Deb Caletti

The Fortunes of Indigo Skye is about just a typical teenager working as a waitress. Just a typical teenager until she is given a HUGE tip. 2.5 million dollars huge. Will the money change her?
I liked this book. I liked the main character. I liked her, that is, until she got the money. It completely changed her. Luckily the ending made me smile, otherwise I would probably be saying I hated this book.

"Hate List" by Jennifer Brown

Rating: Excellent! (5)

Hate List by Jennifer Brown

Hate List by Jennifer Brown is one of the best book I've read. The premise is about a girl whose boyfriend went on a shooting spree at their high school, targeting people that was put on their hate list. A hate list she helped created. Now after choosing to continue her senior year at the same school, Valerie must deal with the aftermath of everything.

Jennifer Brown manages to make readers feel extreme sympathy for Valerie and the ending will leave readers sad yet happy.

The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell

Carrie Bradshaw, a senior in high school, vows to stand out and make things happen for her last year at home. However, her emotion-driven self often makes quick decisions that lead to negative consequences. This story entertained me because of Carrie's witty, selfish personality that every teenage girl can relate to!

Marcelo In The Real World by Francisco X. Stork

Marcelo has a form of autism that a best described as close to Asperger's. However, Marcelo feels bad calling it that, since he has things much easier than many with Asperger's. He goes to Paterson, where he can learn at his own pace. All he wants to do is take care of the ponies at Paterson's stable. However, his father thinks he should go to public school for his senior year. He also thinks Marcelo should work in the "real world" at his law firm rather than Paterson. Marcelo agrees to work at the law firm. There he realizes that though it is a challenge to make it in the real world, he can do it. He also, however, realizes that life in the real world isn't always pretty.
I would definitely reccomend this book. This book made me think more about autism, our legal system and life in the real world in general.

"Dare You To" by Katie McGarry

Rating: Excellent! (5)

Dare You To by Katie McGarry

It all started with a dare. Ryan is dared to get the tough girl's number. He loses the dare. Beth thinks Ryan is dumb and is glad she will never see him again. However, when she covers for her mom and s arrested, Beth is sent to live with her uncle. What she doesn't know is that she's moving to Ryan's hometown, and he wants to know her. But with Ryan being the baseball star and Beth the girl with the bad home life, will a relationship between them ever work out?
I really enjoyed this book. While it is a romance definitely marketed to girls, I think some boys would also enjoy it. It alternates chapters between Beth and Ryan, and Ryan's chapters are a lot about baseball. Beth isn't a girly girl either, so this book would be a good read for boys or girls.
