In a world where everyone has a specific place, job and role in society, America Singer just wants Aspen. Unfortunately, he is a caste below her, so their relationship is wrong, illegal and rebellious from the get-go. When America is chosen in the Selection, a contest to determine the prince's new bride, everything just comes crashing down on her. Suddenly, she's ripped away from her normal, unglamorous life and thrust into a world of politics, intrigue and beauty. The thirty-four girls there with her are in a cutthroat battle to catch the prince's attention, while America just wants to go home, but bit by bit, she grows to love the boy she was ripped away from her home for. When Aspen comes back into the picture, she's torn between the boy she's loved forever and the boy she loves now. Who will she choose?
This book is so full of cliches and terrible rip offs of other things it's not even funny. When it was described as a mix of Hunger Games and The Bachelor, that was spot-on.
