A Pool Party Celebration!
The 100th birthday celebration continues at the Marathon County Public Library. Join us Friday, August 10 for a party at the Memorial Park pool in Wausau. The fun begins at 1:00 and will last until 5:00.
Kids can get free admission to the pool for their whole family by reading books and turning in a reading club ticket. Anyone can get in free by showing their library card.
So, bring your picnic lunch and come and enjoy a day of free swimming, birthday cake, and prize drawings, and make yourself a cool summer visor!
Our thanks to the Wausau/Marathon County Park Department for co-sponsoring this event.
It's not too late to start the reading club! We will be accepting reading club tickets at all Marathon County Public Library locations through Saturday, August 18. The more books you read, the more tickets you can enter in the drawings for cool prizes! Come and learn how to get started today!
As part of the Library's 100th Birthday Celebration, we sponsored a "Why I Love My Library" competition. Curious about what the 127 students wrote? Here are some of their answers.
Totally cool books...Variety of books and CDs and DVDs...Internet computers...Comfy chairs..Quiet place to study...Good place to hang out with my friends...Lots of programs...Awesome and friendly staff...Online book finder...Teen Section...It's where all the fun is!
The library rocked yesterday as we celebrated our 100th birthday. There was definitely no shussing as almost 2800 people came to dance to Andy Z and the Spankin Monkees, be serenaded by the Golden Glow Quartet Barbershoppers, listen to the storytellers, eat cake, ride the trolley, and have a good time. It was fun watching parents dancing with their children and elderly couples dancing together. It was inspiring to hear comments like "I never thought you could do 'that' in a library. This is fun." The 'that' usually referred to the band that had the second floor rocking. Customers of all ages had fun, and staff had a good time. Lots of us are saying we shouldn't wait another 100 years for the next party. We might not be around that long, and we wouldn't want to miss the fun.
Library is 100 Years Old, April 3, 1907--April 3, 2007
Library staff donned birthday hats, many of them hand-made creations, on April 3 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the dedication of the first library building in Wausau on April 3, 1907. Dancing, food, and frivolity was had by all. See more photographs here. And don't forget to come and help us celebrate the 100th Birthday of the Library on April 15 with live music, birthday stories and storybook characters, trolley rides, and of course birthday cake, punch and fun, fun, fun for the whole family. Activities start at 1:30 on April 15. Come join us!
