Passport Day in the USA
On Saturday, March 27, 9:00am-4:00pm, the Library at Wausau is participating with other passport acceptance facilities in the 2nd annual Passport Day in the USA. This is a national passport acceptance and outreach event sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. More than 2,000 facilities, including the Marathon County Public Library, participated last year.
U.S. citizens are required to present a valid passport book when entering or re-entering the United States by air. When entering or re-entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry, a Passport Book or Passport Card are required. Unlike the Passport Book, the Passport Card can only be used for land and sea travel.
To apply for a U.S. Passport you will need the following:
Passport Application--available at the Event or online
Proof of U.S. citizenship--a certified, county or state issued birth certificate, or naturalization certificate, or previous (expired) U.S. Passport
Proof of identity—current, valid driver’s license or state-issued ID card
2 Passport Photos—may be taken at the Library’s Passport Event for $10 per set
Check or money order to pay Department of State fees. Passport Book fees are $75.00 for an individual age 16 or over, or $60.00 for applicants under the age of 16. Passport card fees are $20.00 (age 16 or over) and $10.00 (under the age of 16)
$25 execution fee for a Passport Book or Card (cash, check, credit or debit) payable to the Marathon County Public Library
The time to get your U.S. passport has never been better. An increase in passport fees is being proposed, so you may wish to get your passport now.
