Happy Birthday Martin Luther King, Jr.!

Martin Luther King, Jr., an American clergyman, activist and prominent leader in the African-American civil rights movement was born January 15th, 1929. In 1964, he became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Here are some books about him that are available through the Crawford County Library System.

Be Prepared for Bargains Galore on 64

Bargains Galore on 64 is coming up, August 13-15th. You can  prepare for the miles long yard sale by reading some of the books below. We have antique guides on a variety of subjects so if you collect a certain item call or come by to see if we have a book for you! As always, feel free to place a hold on titles online, through email, or by calling or coming into your local library.

And don't forget to stop by the libraries' book sale during Bargains Galore on 64. We will be in our "usual" spot, under the shade trees in Dyer. We will have tables of donated and discarded library items for sale, including children's books, audio books, fiction, non-fiction and more!

When M.I.T. sutdent Kevin Lewis meets classmates Jason Fisher and Andre Martinez, he is intrigued. Although neither seems to have any real responsibilities, they always have plenty of cash. One evening, they tell Kevin why. Using card-tracking calculations, they have devised a way to beat blackjack. Once he learns the system, Kevin joins Jason and Andre at the casinos. There to the growing dismay of gambling kingpins, they make a fortune--all perfectly legal. This movie stars Jim Sturgess and Kevin Spacey.

The Crawford County Library System currently has several books that were adapted into movies and coming to a theater near you!

Jumper by Steven Gould. A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers that this fight has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and those who have sworn to kill them. This movie will be in theaters starting  February 14th and stars Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson.

The Spiderwick Chronicles Series by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black
Peculiar things start to happen the moment the Grace family leave New York and move into the secluded old house owned by their great, great uncle. This movie will be in theaters starting February 15th and stars Freddie Highmore and Mary-Louise Parker.

Happy Birthday Alexandre Dumas!

Summer is all about action and adventure, at least that's how it looks when you notice  the summer blockbuster movies that abound. Action can be just as exciting in book form. Alexandre Dumas, a French novelist who was born on July 24, 1802, wrote several great adventure novels. Here are his works that are available through the Crawford County Library System.
