The Beatty Award

I’ve just been appointed to the Beatty Award Committee of the California Library Association.  I will soon begin reading new books written about California and will then help decide which one is THE best.  The California Library Association's John and Patricia Beatty Award honors the author of a distinguished book for children or young adults that best promotes an awareness of California and its people.  Last year's winner was
Operation Redwood by S. Terrell French, a great adventure book with technology and ecology included.  Something like Hoot.

I'm excited about the committee.  I'll be reading lots of books that aren't so good probably, but lots of good ones too.  And I'll help to decide which book will probably be read by the most people.  What's your favorite book  that takes place in California?  Did it get published after 1988?  Find out if it won the Beatty award .
