The Maury County Public Library is hosting our 2nd Annual HISTORY FAIR to be held at Maury County Park on May 4-5, 2012. The event is FREE and open to the public. Group reservations are available for Friday.

History will come to life at the First Farmers and Merchants Storytelling & History Festival, which will be held May 4-5 at Maury County Park. Admission is free to this family event. A wide variety of entertainment, including professional storytellers, living history demonstrators, and craftsmen will be featured. Visitors will learn about the early history of the middle Tennessee area strolling through the historic encampments, visiting with artisans and tradesmen dressed in period attire. The festival will also feature Native American dancing, horse demonstrations, traditional basket weaving, dulcimer music, tomahawk throwing, weapons demonstrations, and much more. Children’s activities will be provided by the James K. Polk Home and the MidSouth Live Steamers will be providing tiny train rides free of charge to visitors.
The Maury County Public Library is pleased to announce Maury County Historian and Archives Director Bob Duncan will be at the library to present a lecture on the second year of the Civil War on Thursday, April 26th at 6:30PM.
In 2011, Duncan gave the popular lecture, “Tennessee Marches Toward War,” concerning 1861 and the first year of the Civil War in Tennessee. The lecture to be held on April 26th is titled, “Learning How to Fight,” and concerns the second year of the Civil War in Tennessee.
About the Speaker:
Bob Duncan is the director of the Maury County Archives located at 201 E. 6th Street. Duncan is also Maury County’s official historian. He is known throughout Tennessee– and the nation– for being a preeminent Maury County and Tennessee historian. Duncan writes a weekly column, Hindsight, published in The Daily Herald every Sunday and is the author of several books including a five-volume set on Maury County history.
